Should Have Known...

Well, we thought it was too good to be true when Maddox just "took" to his big boy bed so easily. We had no sooner finished congratulating ourselves when it all went wrong. He had four perfect nights. Went to bed without a peep and stayed asleep in bed all night. Last night we had problems from the start. He didn't want to go to bed. We'd lay him down, cover him up, close the door. He'd get out of bed, open the door, and come running down the hallway. We'd lay him down, cover him up, close the door. He'd get out of bed, open the door, and come running down the hallway. Finally, after the third sprint through the house Shawn told him that if he didn't stay in bed this time he was going to get spanked. (I'm not going to debate spanking vs. not spanking with anyone so don't bother. We do the best we can in the McQuary household) So we laid him down, covered him up, & closed the door for the 4th time. This time he was sneakier. He just opened the door a little bit, saw Shawn standing in the hall waiting for him and he closed the door again. Shawn attempted to go in to see if he'd gone back to his bed only to realize that his son, not yet 2, was trying to hold the door closed so Shawn couldn't get in. True to his word Shawn smacked his butt. It was only when Shawn explained why he got a smacked butt that Maddox started to cry. He stayed in his bed after that. Until 11:30 when we did a re-run of the experience, minus the spanking. Then again at 2:00, and finally at 5:00 am we are just up for the day. "We", however, are not in a good mood.

Yikes! I've got no answers, only sympathy. I'm NOT looking forward to getting Elizabeth a big-person bed. Especially since I bet she'll become an early riser... (she gets up at 8 now, I'm so spoiled.)

Wait, I do have a suggestion: Maybe give him a later bedtime?

Oy. Sometimes kids just have to test their new found freedom from the crib. I assure you it does get better!

Good luck!
